In my search for more variety in my instrumentation, I am being blessed by friends and acquaintances who step forward to contribute. Sharon, a friend of Shelby’s, has agreed to record some flute parts for the record. I just finished writing parts for one song, with more to come.
I’m looking forward to this weekend where I’ll get to work on some tracks with Jon. Trumpet and maybe some other instruments.
I’m still hoping to find a violin/viola player for some string layers. I have fun ideas. Do you know anyone?
Lee Bozeman (Luxury, All Things Bright & Beautiful) has just put out an EP entitled Mea Culpa under the moniker Orient Is His Name. I had the privilege of contributing to one of the songs on it. Definitely check it out. It’s available for download here:
Being a full-time working newly-wed with siblings-in-law and friends who are getting married has taken away from my time recording. Additionally, I do not have ready-access to my recording space as it is a half-hour commute in the opposite direction of my work’s half-hour commute!
In spite of this, I had time to do a little recording about a week ago for a collaborative project. More to come for it, too.
As you can see from the post below, I have enabled a weekly “Tweet summary” post that collects all of my twitter posts (which range far and wide in topics). I apologize as such a collection likely doesn’t interest you, but it provides a nice archive for me and a reflection point on how I used my week.
In any case, how are things for you these days, dear reader? Have you been able to do the things you want to do? What have you done lately in service of such goals?
This past weekend the venerable Benji Robinson came to Bowling Green and we tracked some drums and spent almost an hour sampling various sounds in the house, including rubber bands, silverware, dish washer doors, faucets, cardboard boxes, coins, and scissors. These will be used to build beats and atmosphere as we aspire to complete a 4-5 song EP to be released within 2 months.
I would be very pleased if we had this out by Christmas time. I think it’s the only other musical release I’ll manage to get out this year, but it’s exciting.
I took some video while we recorded and hopefully I can get it posted here within a day or two.
I have updated my Flickr with a set of photos taken at various times this year while Stop Don’t Stop was recording their full length debut album, Sweating Through The Night (available soon on iTunes & Amazon MP3). Enjoy!
Lately, I look at tasks, skills, and other projects in my life and think about completely obliterating them. I look at a piano and I want to be fluent, smooth, controlled, etc. with it. I see an old 8-bit Ninja Gaiden game and I want to master it, be able to beat it without dying. Think of an idea for a website, and I want to know how to make it happen. Does it require learning new languages? Ok, whatever it takes. My room is a mess. Ok, get it clean, just do it, get through it.
I helped on a video production and 3 audio productions this weekend, over 16 hours of effort.
