Orient Is His Name

January 3rd, 2010

Lee Bozeman (Luxury, All Things Bright & Beautiful) has just put out an EP entitled Mea Culpa under the moniker Orient Is His Name. I had the privilege of contributing to one of the songs on it. Definitely check it out. It’s available for download here:

Forthcoming Music Update

What you should know

  • Working on some songs with Lee Bozeman still. (I really owe this more focus ASAP).
  • Stop Don’t Stop EP still in the works. Drums, Bass, Guitars are finished. Vocals and Aux Percussion still needed, plus any extra “spices” we will add.
  • I have also been tracking the new Michael Edwards LP for a couple of weeks.

New Michael Edwards LP you say?

Yes. Not news if you read this site. I am harvesting a couple of years of songs and also much new material into a good, juicy package. Hopefully it can be heard to be adding a few instruments to my repertoire as well as perhaps new kinds of songs. You’ll never find me recording 10 same-sounding-songs and boringly releasing it.

Learning the violin

February 2nd, 2009

As some of you know, my wonderful fiancee, Shelby, bought me a violin for Christmas! I’ve never sat down and tried to learn this instrument, or any bowed instrument for that matter. So…how am I doing one month in?

I’m collaborating on some music with Lee Bozeman and for one of the songs I decided to put the pedal to the metal and actually wrote a violin arrangement. I’ve mixed down just the violins with few effects so you can hear what my playing is like right now.

Disclaimers:

  • Seriously, I’m a beginner. Don’t expect this to sound fantastic.
  • I can’t do vibrato yet, so the notes are all just straight. (for the non-technical, vibrato is when you essentially make the notes “shake” like singers do, and string sections usually do it too. It sounds very beautiful and is not easy for a beginner).
  • Yes, it is a bit sloppy.
  • I love the arrangement. I also look forward to the day I can play it much more beautifully.

Also, the songwriting by Lee is just fantastic, and you should look forward to this when it comes out.
