Some websites I’d like to point out

May 20th, 2009

Just wanted to take a moment and point out a few websites I (or someone close to me) has had a hand in. So, without further ado:

Rotating Pilgrim

http://www.rotatingpilgrim.com

sk

With a title inspired by the writings of people such as Søren Kierkegaard and Walker Percy, I started this site to post writings, meditations, thrashings, inspirations, and anything else I find intriguing. It will generally center around literature, arts, philosophy, ethics, and religion. You can also follow Rotating Pilgrim on twitter.

Listen To Your Friends

Storytelling is awesome. Unfortunately, where I live, most of the time we are going to external sources for stories. Whatever happened to telling stories to each other? Reading books to each other? Something about the spoken story told well by someone we know just rings true to me. That is why I started Listen To Your Friends. Anyone can upload an mp3 to this site and your reading will be there for all to hear! LTYF is also on twitter.

What are you waiting for? Get involved!

World Story Organization

http://www.worldstoryorganization.org

wsomissionWorld Story Organization is dedicated to providing a storytelling and film production education for communities around the world. My brother, Justin, is the founder. He would love whatever support you can give him!

Further Up & Further In

http://www.cslewisblog.com

picture-2Maintained by C. S. Lewis scholar and father of yours truly, Bruce Edwards, this web site is focused on providing essential resources for lovers and students of C. S. Lewis, and his friends among the Inklings. Begun in 1995, as one of the very first C. S. Lewis web sites, Further Up and Further In is intended to serve both the novice and the experienced reader of Lewis.

You can also follow Bruce’s Lewis work on twitter.

Videos in the sidebar

January 5th, 2009

I now have a widget showing my latest Vimeo videos in the sidebar of the site. It grabs any videos I’ve uploaded and categorized as “music.” Now that I have my own pocket HD camera, there will probably be more video work done.

December update

December 3rd, 2008

It has become clear that the Dunvint EP will not be done this year. Instead of a victory lap it seems that the road gets longer the more we work on it. But that’s because we have high standards and want this to be great! It’s also because we all have full time jobs and don’t get to work on it nearly as much as we would like.

I invited Tom Wade to contribute to the project. It’s good to have another personality in the mix. A couple of weeks ago Benji and Tom came over during the weekend and we did a lot more sampling. I haven’t gotten around to using the noises yet, but I’m excited about some of the things that were tapped, smacked, rubbed, scraped, and thumped (does this sound sinful yet? You need to get into the head of a foley artist!).

I’m itching to put together some live performances. I’d like to arrange a version of Snowy Morning — even more stripped down to banjo, light percussion, and a couple of vocals.

And again…

November 13th, 2008

The Dunvint EP isn’t finished. A weekend of wedding planning, work, and a (wonderful) Brian Wilson concert slowed me down.

But I want to be done recording and have started mixing by late November.

There won’t be a “Michael Edwards” album this year, but I have lots of songs piling up. Look for a true full length in ’09.

Dunvint update

November 3rd, 2008

This past weekend the venerable Benji Robinson came to Bowling Green and we tracked some drums and spent almost an hour sampling various sounds in the house, including rubber bands, silverware, dish washer doors, faucets, cardboard boxes, coins, and scissors. These will be used to build beats and atmosphere as we aspire to complete a 4-5 song EP to be released within 2 months.

I would be very pleased if we had this out by Christmas time. I think it’s the only other musical release I’ll manage to get out this year, but it’s exciting.

I took some video while we recorded and hopefully I can get it posted here within a day or two.

Good news

July 7th, 2008

I got the job in Lima, OH working as Instructional Designer for Rhodes State College! Woohoo!

This isn’t news to 99% of the people that read this blog, but I figured I’d get it up for-the-record.

I’m going to be doing a lot here and I look forward to it all coming together. Creating workshops, collaborating with faculty, maintaining a new e-learning blog (inspired by Terence Armentano’s work), and more!

Plus, having a great job like this will support my passions in creating music and…well…playing video games on the side.

Coming soon to the mp3 store…

The Press Gang EP - $3.99

The Toledo Free Press says – “Call The Press Gang piano punk, call ‘em a car wreck between indie rock and metal, just don’t call ‘em the Modern Soviet Enemies — though The Press Gang rose from the ashes of that band, this is a new chapter. Art-damaged guitar clashes with tight horns and spy-movie Farfisa organ in the twitchy “Teen Steam,” while “Cobra Cadabra” puts wild-eyed angst to a danceable beat, then throws in enough noisy left turns to trip up the smoothest steppers.”

Interpunk – “The debut EP from The Press Gang has all of the ingredients to make your jaded, drunk, art school dropout ass stand up and dance. Sharp guitar melodies and insane keyboard hooks consumed by a punk rock vibe that could only come from Bowling Green, OH…”

The Press Gang has shared the stage with: The New York Dolls, The Chesterfield Kings, The Supersuckers, The Charms, Stylex, Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, Nomo, Make Believe, Cold War Kids, Detachment Kit, Thunderbirds Are Now!, An Albatross.

Now defunct, the band lives on vicariously as members Ben Lucas, Corey Baum, and Michael Edwards went on to form Stop Don’t Stop. They are currently recording an EP that will be released this summer.

The Press Gang EP Tracklist:

  1. Seal the Deal
  2. Teen Steam
  3. We’re With You If You’re With Us
  4. Cobra Cadabra
  5. Getting to Know Your Partner
  6. BONUS: Tired Machine
