August ends; Album update

September 2nd, 2010

Well this month flew by! I currently have approximately 7 songs reaching a mature shape. As soon as I hit 10-11 I am going to trigger a bullhorn “Pencil’s down!” command and begin the final mixing and preparation.

So far, you can look forward to songs that include scenes such as:

  • A family wronged in tragic violence in the city escapes to map out their bitter revenge.
  • A man on the run weighs the pros and cons of re-inventing himself to escape the past.
  • An avid reader has a strange dream about a haunted library.
  • An examination of the curious accusation that one author would fake his recovery from grief in a pseudonymous publication.
  • Incredulity at the fact of death and its intolerability (Hear hear!)
  • Nature, nurture, freedom, and genetics in the life of a man ashamed of his secrets.
  • A husband unable to forget his last arguments with his wife before a tragic car accident
  • And more…!

Sounds exciting! Sounds bright and pretty and cheerful!

For the curious:
I have been interviewed by none other than my wife on her blog. A novelty and a treat for anyone who stumbles upon this site.

Recording update

April 24th, 2010

Got to spend several hours this saturday laying down some drum, acoustic, and vocal tracks for Rotation, which is an upcoming song for my album this year (which I will finish). It has some spots for trumpet, flute, and violin parts (I’m still looking for some musicians to help me out in that regard).

I’m looking forward to some contributions from Jon Torrence on this song and others. We’ll get a chance to start laying down tracks around May 15th.

All this to say that I’m excited about the songs I’ve written and that I’m making progress on the record! Get stoked, it’s been over two years since I’ve put anything out.

Wanted: Instrumentalists for my next album

April 12th, 2010

I am looking for some musicians who would be interested in recording parts of my next album. In particular I am hoping to find players for the following:

  • Flute
  • Violin / Cello
  • Trumpet / Other brass
  • Saxophone

If you’re interested, I will provide monetary compensation. It won’t be an exorbitant sum of money, but it’ll be something.

Email me (michaeledwardsmusic@gmail.com) or message me on Twitter if you’re interested.

My new site design

April 11th, 2010

I built this site design from scratch. However, some of you may find that I am very clearly influenced by a certain blogger in the typography and color choices. I doubt he’ll ever see this site, but if he does then I hope he takes it as flattery. For what it’s worth, I coded it all myself from scratch, only using his design as a visual reference. No copy and paste.

UPDATE: I have been gradually building in comments and styling them to match the theme. Huzzah!

So, what do you think? Is this a good look for my site?

Turned 26

March 25th, 2010

So there we have it. 26 years. I have a wonderful family and wonderful friends. I have a good job and an amazing wife. I’m still creating music and I still enjoy what I’m doing. Not a whole lot I could ask for, ya know?

So here’s to life, as it marches onward. May you find peace and joy. May we all.

Orient Is His Name

January 3rd, 2010

Lee Bozeman (Luxury, All Things Bright & Beautiful) has just put out an EP entitled Mea Culpa under the moniker Orient Is His Name. I had the privilege of contributing to one of the songs on it. Definitely check it out. It’s available for download here:

Ornaments: A Christmas Album

December 19th, 2009

Ornaments is a Christmas album project dreamed up by my friend Jeremy Cordy. He approached me in early November 2009 with the idea of gathering the various musically talented friends we had to try to put together something beautiful. I couldnʼt be more pleased with the results.

Comprised of almost entirely original songs, the project was an attempt to fill a few gaps in the Christmas music we were used to hearing all the time and explore some different scenarios and ideas.

B-Sides: There are some songs we didn’t quite finish in time. As they get wrapped up and released I’ll update this post with links.

I’m still here!

October 5th, 2009

Being a full-time working newly-wed with siblings-in-law and friends who are getting married has taken away from my time recording. Additionally, I do not have ready-access to my recording space as it is a half-hour commute in the opposite direction of my work’s half-hour commute!

In spite of this, I had time to do a little recording about a week ago for a collaborative project. More to come for it, too.

As you can see from the post below, I have enabled a weekly “Tweet summary” post that collects all of my twitter posts (which range far and wide in topics). I apologize as such a collection likely doesn’t interest you, but it provides a nice archive for me and a reflection point on how I used my week.

In any case, how are things for you these days, dear reader? Have you been able to do the things you want to do? What have you done lately in service of such goals?
