What you should know
- Working on some songs with Lee Bozeman still. (I really owe this more focus ASAP).
- Stop Don’t Stop EP still in the works. Drums, Bass, Guitars are finished. Vocals and Aux Percussion still needed, plus any extra “spices” we will add.
- I have also been tracking the new Michael Edwards LP for a couple of weeks.
New Michael Edwards LP you say?
Yes. Not news if you read this site. I am harvesting a couple of years of songs and also much new material into a good, juicy package. Hopefully it can be heard to be adding a few instruments to my repertoire as well as perhaps new kinds of songs. You’ll never find me recording 10 same-sounding-songs and boringly releasing it.
What does it sound like?
Despite my best efforts, it will inevitably sound like me! I’m sure there will be analogs to previous sounds but I am working, especially lyrically, to go for something new and interesting. There’s definitely some ideas behind it, from readings, from stories. I also hope it ends up as a bunch of plain old gosh-darn good songs, the rhetoric and ideas left alone.
Premature Tracklist?
Yes, I can do that (all subject to change):
- Fold It Away, Baby
- Car Crash
- Library
- Orphans, We Are All Orphans
- Save Your Hope For The Hopeless
- Limb From Limb
- Militia
- Start A Fire
- Feels Like Death Might Win
- Strong Like A Tree
- The Archaeologists Find Some Bones By Our Lake
Other potentials:
- Galvanized (ollllld, old song)
- Like One Of His Children (a homeless ex-soldier finds rest in a stranger’s home)
- Achilles (the half-man/half-god wonders what it all means)
- and anything else I come up with in the studio.
Hey, I’ve heard some of those songs before!
Yup. Several of these have been demos on here or floating around the interwebs in the past. The record will be all new recordings of any such songs, hopefully improved.
When will it be done?
Good question. My wedding is 52 days away, and obviously that gets precedence over any of my other activities. That and working a full time job and still playing live in a band means that I make lots of excuses for being slow. I’m hoping for a fall release.
I’ll put it out on iTunes and Amazon MP3, but I also plan to make some sort of mail-order physical package available with professionally printed snazzy artwork.

Dude, nice on Achilles. I’d really like to hear that again. Also, any chance on To the West making the cut? Any other ollllld Mike Edwards stuff?
No chance of To The West. It just doesn’t fit with the other songs. It’s an unfinished fairy tale. Maybe I’ll get back to it sometime.
What other olllllld stuff comes to mind? I don’t know if there’s all that much sitting around :).
What about There Are No Guidelines Within?
haha kcray i’m doing a michael edwards tribute EP cover songs of all the great old songs he doesn’t use, and i’ve got my eye on to the west…
J, AWESOME!
@Joel I’m going to pass on that song. That song was originally my “educational philosophy learning statement” in song form, but I abandoned that and changed the lyrics into There Are No Guidelines Within. Partly because it was insufferably cheesy but also because Justin was already doing a song and didn’t want to flood the market (of that classroom).
J’s version of Animals is better than mine, IMO. The one on Greed project.
i’ve written a treatment of to the west as a screenplay for an episode of the sacred kingdom (my kids adventure movie from a couple years ago). hope that’s okay.
